Finally got my first 69 c20! $500

Hi to all. My first thread. Have been reading and you guys have already helped a ton. Have had the truck for a couple weeks. No pwr anything, Will be shoping for a cab as the floors, rockers, corners, and firewall have turned into compost for some ones field. Through other threads I have put together that its a 250 six with a sm420 four spd. Also shopping for motor now since it threw a rod and made a 4 inch hole in the block last friday. Would like to stick with a six, but I am in college and will be for another 2 years. Since 8's are easier to come by I am debating the conversion for now with the possibility of going original when i have money again. I like original trucks and dream of taking it back to its day. Any tips, suggestions or reprimands will be welcomed. Thanks guys.

Re: Finally got my first 69 c20! $500

hey, welcome to the board. Looks like a good ol truck. I can feel your pain with the rusted cab. My 68 is in similar condition, and I too have decided to replace the cab because the amount of dissasembly required to repair will basically strip it down to nothing. So I can get another cab... do any repairs needed with it off the truck(easier).. and not have to stop driving my truck in the mean time. As far as the engine goes, I don't know how the salvage market is in kansas, but around here a 6cyl is cheaper than a 8. I recently saw a running 250 with alot of add -ons (headers, intake, 4V carb, hei ignition) go for $500. If you want to keep it stock, give a look around maybe you'll find a good deal on one. Look in the parts pages on this site first, there are some good deals here....good luck with your truck

Welcome to the board, I just picked up a cab for my 69 2 weeks ago for the same reason. Good Luck with the build.

thanks meangreen. have looked around a bit, haven't found anything too exciting. couple of rebuilders for 400-500 bucks. If I can find a solid one with a few nice parts, ill take it. forgot to look on here...

looks like you have a nice truck to start with. Finding a good cab with minimal repair could take some time depending on the budget. motor just depends on whats available in the price range you are lookin in

Nice truck, I would stick with a 250ci in your case. I had a 68 C20 just like yours, light blue, no power option, farm truck. 250ci with the SM465 (SM420 ended production in 1967)

will do. continuing the hunt for a six, still thinking bout an 8. friend of mine can build a helluva SBC. just tryin to decide whether i wanna spend 2g on his motor or find a six and go thru it. prolly end up somewhere round the same financial input. anyways keep me in mind when you see a steal out there and let me kno.
