Hi All. . .I'm going to get a carpet kit for my truck, and I'm wondering how to tell which size "hump" covers the bell housing. I have a 350 turbo hydromatic.

I have no idea what these are. . .

Mike, I am betting you have a low hump, as a high hump was on 4x4, manual trans, and turbo 400 only trucks. Here is a pic of my truck with a high hump: Trevor

TH400 got a smnall hump.
Where does that come from? I hear a LOT of people say that.
4 speed, 4X4, and BIG BLOCK with AUTO.
If you got the TH400 with a small block or an inline... you got the low hump.
Plus, every once in a while one can't be explained. like my old GMC v-6 truck with a high hump.

Andy, I think you hear it a lot because most of the time a turbo 400 came with big blocks. I never even knew someone could order the tranny without a big block. Trevor

Maybe that was for the rare optioned 250 I-6 with a TH400??? You'd need to put a blower on the 6 just to turn the gears in the dang thing! HAHA

I had a 68 C-10 2wd with a 327/th400 and a high hump.

the TH350 was never installed in a pick up till 69, so ALL 3 speed auto trucks were TH400.

easy way to tell which you have is to look at it. if it bolts to the floor it is high. otherwise it's a low hump.
I prefer the high as it gives my foot a larger side rest

It's been well explained in the posts above. Plenty of 2 wheel drives had high humps.

I think this has been gone over before. What everyone missed is that a 2WD SBC with manual floor shift has a high hump!

Who's making it hard? If it bolts on it's a high hump if it doesn't bolt on and is not removable it's a low hump.

Two words that shouldn't be said when it comes to vehicles are ALWAYS and NEVER. Just when we think we know whats up something come along that shows us what we thot we knew was wrong. With the factory anything was possible odds are being a 72 with a th350 it's a low hump but for all we know some might have left with high humps because something on the assembly line could have been changed at the last minute.

I always thot th400s got a high hump because both trucks I've owned with th400s had high humps, one was a factory big block and the other was a factory small block.

Yep! The trick is to find a high hump cover with no holes or repair the 4 speed cover that came with the cab. Sharpie
