69 C10, Front Discs and Speed Bleeders
Here's the deal - I bought a kit several years ago from GMC Pauls. Had springs, rotors, McGaughys drop spindles, etc. The other day I looked up the part # for speed bleeders for a 72 C10, front disc and ordered them. They do not fit.
First off, I am guessing that the calipers that come in these kits are just OEM calipers? From the 72-ish trucks (or whenever they started building them with front discs)? Next, Russell's website lists the same part number for 67-72, front and rear, no different part number for front drums. My second assumption here is that they are listing the drum bleeders and stating they are for disc since the numbers are all the same. Does anybody know the Russell part number or at least the thread size for these calipers so I can get my speed bleeders? Last edited by mplex2000; 10-25-2009 at 01:35 PM. |

You probably have a '73-up caliper,... but who knows for sure. It would be easier to just pull out the bleeder and measure the diameter and the number of threads per inch.

I guess that's what I'll need to do...if you look at the Russell page, pretty much every truck from creation to present lists the same number.
Even more odd I think they ALL list a number for front disc, no number for front drums, so I think Russell has issues! |

Re: 69 C10, Front Discs and Speed Bleeders
Looks like a total of 4 different part numbers for the GM trucks:
Not these two, because they are metric thread. 639580- metric 639520- metric I would think it would be these two with a standard thread. 639590 639530 I guess it depends on what your calipers are. They could have been replaced over the years with a cheap auto parts version that had metric bleeders. Keep us posted on your progress. Which part number did you order?

These are GM calipers, I was meaning to google the number to see what I could come up with. The part I ordered was 639590. When I went to install, it looks like the one in the caliper is a little larger diameter, and coarse thread while the speed bleeder is fine thread.

Larger and coarser thread would be the 7/16-20 (part # 639510).
I would still try to measure the stock bleeder.

Dude, you are the man. I'll check when I get home just to be sure. To measure diameter do I throw a caliper over the threads?

Re: 69 C10, Front Discs and Speed Bleeders
Yep.
Kinda doesn't make sense, because that number does not show up as a GM bleeder number. Do you have any pics of the two calipers? The 7/16-20 sounds more like the banjo bolt size for the rubber brake line,... NOT the bleeder.
