Re: Should i trade my truck?

That is a clean looking Elco in the pics. I think the wheels are too big for it. But I would not give up the truck for it. But, I never have cared much for them. (Other than the classics, like a 59.)

go with your gut. You obviously like the El Camino or it wouldn't be an issue. Now it just comes down to which you like better. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Re: Should i trade my truck?

I owned a 66 Elky for nine years. It is a great compromise between a truck and a car. It was a great parts hauler.

Biggest down side is they are pretty tough to find body parts for if you ever need them. Things changed in just a couple year time frame so there are a lot of little variations. The trucks are much more common in this respect.

If you like the looks of it and it passes smog I say go for it. They are much harder to find than a square body. You can always find a square on CL for a decent price, seeing a nice Elky around is pretty uncommon.

Re: Should i trade my truck?

The El Camino is clean and I think you would be getting the better part of the deal. I think we all agree on that. It just depends whether or not you are in love with square bodies.

Re: Should i trade my truck?

I would trade for sure!! The elco could then be sold for a handsome profit and you could then buy 2 or 3 squares in good shape.

The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.

As long as you can smog it, I would say trade. Not to sound like an old man but cruising with your old lady is significantly nicer with ac.

Re: Should i trade my truck?

I will have to go against the grain and say no way! Maybe if it were an older model like '64-'72. Going from a big block to that 305 I think will be a big disapointment for you.

Don't forget the Elky is at least 1000 pounds lighter than the truck.

A 305 with a small cam, good exhaust and a tune will surprise you. My 83 Z/28 ran 13.80's with a 305 and it was heavier than the Elky by 300 pounds.

Nothing says it has to stay a 305 either. A 350 or a 383 looks exactly the same to the smog guy so as long as it is tuned properly they will never know.

I say take it for a drive and see what you think.

Re: Should i trade my truck?

Trade. The A/C and power windows appeal a lot more to me than the big box. You could find another box. I would make sure the title is clean and accurate though for sure.

Re: Should i trade my truck?

I say dont do it cause u spend all that money on up grading 2 a big block all 2 go 2 a 305?? that does not seem like a good trade on ur part. sure u it has power windows and locks but u can always get those 4 ur truck in tha future. and a/c i take it is not that important 2 u in tha first place because u prolly wouldnt of put a big block in tha truck if it was. a long story short... naaa i wouldnt, but that is just me. IMO

Its a nice elco and there is no shortage of squares in the world. If you want an elco, do it. You can always pick up another c10.
