71 C10 Budget Project
I was looking for parts for my 72 Suburban when a fellow employee offered this truck to me for $500. I bought it thinking I could use the motor/trans and put the Burb on the road as my daily driver. After driving it around for a few days I decided to keep it together and play with it a bit. I have decided to just make it a low buck project for fun. I have a lot of parts laying around the shop from my days of racing Dirt Pro Stock's and other projects. I have always liked the 67-72 style but I really don't know much about them. I kinda fell into the Suburban I have. I was given the Burb in trade for taking the motor and trans out of it and putting it in a Motorhome for my Dad. Oh well looks like the Burb is on the backburner for a few more years. My plan is to lower it tomorrow night and build a HEI for the motor. I will take a few pics and get them posted later this week.

Nice find, should make for a good project. But I have to ask are you going to run both wings or just the top one?

If he uses high-speed muffler bearings he may not need the top one at all...
Some people have all the luck. Yeah, it sucks to be me.

Re: 71 C10 Budget Project
I had a pair of replacement air bags for a 99 Dodge Ram. These were the type you add to the stock suspension for towing. I made a template for them and drilled and mounted to the frame. The lower bolted right where the lower spring bolt went. This was a fairly easy project with the help of some other build threads here on the forum. I tore the front spring out chopped 2 coils out for a temporary solution. I got the bug to go lower so I'm gonna work on getting some drop spindles and bags for the front. I am also gonna start on notching the back.

Oh man..... Don't get me thinking about the Dirt Track days. I will have a cage in and numbers on the side of this truck in a weekend.

I don't imagine there is any use for the old coil springs or rear bumper, but if anyone want's them they can have them. The bumper is straight.

Re: 71 C10 Budget Project
Looking for some advice on this. These pics are of the body damage on the left rear corner. I have decided to cut the truck down and make it a short bed. My concern is if I should replace the bedside or fix what I have. Next question is should I fix the damage then cut the bed down or shorten the bed then fix the damage? To confuse matters more I am thinking about raising the bed floor and fabricating my own rear frame instead on notching the frame. I WANNA GO LOW!

Re: 71 C10 Budget Project
I was doing some research on an engine driven compressor for the air bags. I decided to find a York. After doing my homework I realized that my 72 Suburban had a York on it. It appears to be some sort of add on kit. The bracket looks like it was manufactured and not a one off. I installed it on my truck and it is a perfect fit. Anyone ever seen one of these? The second pic is the ID tag on the York. I hope this is what I need. Any input would be great.
