choping springs
ok i know its taboo to cut coil springs but i just ordered 3" spindles and i wanna see what 2" off the coil will look like on my truck or if i go 3" so if anyone knows how much to cut off that would be great im not gonna cut the coil with a gas axe im cutting with a angle grinder to help keep heat down!!!!

Re: choping springs
Cutting one coil gives about 2". Most of my trucks have cut stock springs and lowered spindles. Just dont cut more than one coil.

Re: choping springs
Noth ing "wrong" with cutting coils. Some people may advise against it, but I have had many a truck with cut coils with no issues with ride or anything else. Just keep the head down and just cut one coil.

Yep - we did 7 or 8 trucks like that back in the day with no issues. My current driver has 23 years and 180,000 miles of "durability testing" with no problems. K

Re: choping springs
yea , nothing wrong with cutting em, (The right way) and that is to set em in a 5 gallon bucket of water with the coil you want to cut just above the water, cut with a portaband , or a angle grinder, something that cuts quick and doesn't put much heat in the springs.. Heating up springs to drop something is what is taboo.

I know it's extra work, but I suggest you cut one coil and put it back together. You can always cut more off if it's not low enough, but it don't work so well trying to glue it back on.

Re: choping springs
Depending on the age of the spring, I generally cut a 1/2 a coil and put it back in and drive it. (remove it by taking the rear lower control arm mounts off) and if that is not enough drop another 1/2 and put it back in and drive it. after a full coil I generally cut around 1/8th off at a time to find tune it. IF you find one side is higher than the other, flip them around.

Re: choping springs
The springs will probably settle a little. Your going to need a shorter tire once you put the spindles on.
