This is what i got in the mail!









This is made of steel what the HELL were they doing...do they run every thing through a pipe bender!

you telling me...im so mad about it...I have a 63 chrome one but its in pretty rough shape...Guess ill be spending the samll fortune to fix and rechrome it.

Thats why I dont deal with usps. Pay a little more and know that that wont happen. Does it say fragile any where on it?

It's a friggin' steel grill from a '63 Chevy truck. Who the hell would have ever thought you needed to mark it as fragile?

Those headlights are gonna need to go through months of theropy after what they've been through. Now i know why it took them two weeks to get it here...One week was spent modifying it.

I have an aluminum one....its not perfect but if i remember it could be repaired.. Its missing the headlight buckets.. But looks like those survived on yours.

That really sucks. Reinforces my thoughts of shipping large sheet metal. I can see this grill laying down somewhere and someone sandwiched it against the wall.

Aint it obvious???, shipping to CANADA!, them American shipping dudes just assumed it HAD to be a hockey stick, what else would a canadian buy. Package looked OK to them.

How could the USPS not notice it getting damaged that badly? Was the package insured? Have you contacted the post office about it yet? I really hope you can get the issue resolved but sadly I doubt you will be able to. Good luck though.

try selling a completely rebuilt muncie m-20 with all of the parts to swap to a manual. and spending two hours building a pallet only to have ups destroy the pallet and the trans and ring gear. then put it in a cardboard box. and deny my claim because a cardboard box is not a suitable container for a trans.

quite a few years ago I worked with others delivering parcel pkg for the post office . I was with a guy in one of those big vans like UPS has and he drove and I did the foot work house to house with the pkg's .

They do not eve begin to read fragile and the driver said the it is a waste of time for anyone to mark it as such.

You got my luck, I won't sign for anything without opening everything now. You have me beat, mine was only a MSD distributer cap, rotor, and coil cover. I think the people at the shipping company's use small packages for playing football. (everything in them is smashed half the time) Big ones must goal posts for forklift rugby...

Sorry to hear, those are items are hard to find clean and usable. Hang it on the wall, now you have some garage art with a story to tell

That is the most unbelievable thing I have ever seen, when it comes to damage to a package. I can't believe the postal service worker that dropped it off, had the balls to leave it at your door step.

Insurance with the USPS is a joke. I have tried to file a claim for a few incidents, very minor compared to yours, to no avail. It was a waste of my time and a waste of my money to insure it. Their denial was base on improper packaging, but you have to unpack the item to see and inspect it, so the original packaging is not intact, so there is no way they can make that determination. It is their safety net/catch-all way of not having to pay claims.

I would appeal this situation to the US Post Master General. The USPS had better get on top of their game or they are going to be eliminated, in favor of free-enterprise, like UPS, FedEx, etc.

Sorry for the novel, but I am furious after looking at the photos.

ups is a rip off coming across the border though as they always seem to add about a $35.00 brokerage charge. everyone has their ways of gouging you for more money

Guys,

When Jory sent me the pics in an email, I was literally speechless. I've always had good experiences with USPS. I've shipped four grills, two grill support panels, two fenders, and some other odds and ends sheetmetal and never had a problem like this. I've also shipped countless small packages and only had one small problem with a $3 piece broken.

I did have them mark the package fragile, but only because I was concerned about the headlights being broken (they were working). Turns out they were the only thing to survive, lol. I also got insurance. I insured it for $50 because that was the declared customs value. You can't insure it for more than the declared value. I would've insured it for more, but I've canucks ask me to declare as little as possible in the past to avoid heavy charges on their end.

I'm going Monday to find out what can be done, but I can see USPS blaming Canada and Canada blaming USPS. I really hate this happened, it's not like these grills are growing on trees.


And Jory, there's a couple of good yards around here. I'll see what I can dig up for you around here. Let this be a lesson to the rest of you (me included). Never underestimate the importance of insurance or overestimate how well your packages will be treated by the gorillas in the back room.
