Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
Guys, I am stoked, I won a NOS cheyenne super woodgrain dash off ebay last weekend for a $1 . It came in the mail today and it is gorgeous. Good deals are still out there. Here's some pics:

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
One is a picture of an original woodgrain instrument panel off of a truck. The one with the silver edges is an NOS piece that was never on a truck. Not to much after 72', GM started painting the edges rather than spending extra money to chrome the plastic. Most of all of the NOS dashes that have been located in the past 8 years of me being on this board have had the silver edges. Hope this helps. Trevor

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
Great score. However, the silver looks "off" to me. I can see why they may not be fetching top dollar. I would rather go with a repro with chrome. However, the wood on your NOS version is sooo nice.

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
Not I, the reproduction woodgrain ones are junk. There is a reason to go after NOS ones, it isn't a woodgrain decal. It is a thicker overlay that doesn't bend much. For every NOS one that gets passed up, I will gladly swoop in a pick them up. These don't typically go for a dollar either, these usually bring more than reproduction woodgrain ones. Trevor

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
Trevor is correct. The reproductions don't hold a candle to the silver edged NOS. I recently bought one to replace the repop. I had and went back and forth over the paint, but the woodgrain is heads and tails above the other that it is worth it. Nice score by the way! I paid quite a bit more for the one I took out of the box.

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
I have no complaints about my re-pop chrome bezel...it's the re-pop woodgrain overlay that sucks! Mine is already warped and peeling off after only a couple weeks.

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
The key to getting a repop woodgrain bezel. Contact Cement, and always, always buy the blank bezel and buy the woodgrain seperate. Apply contact cement behind the woodgrain and on the front of the chrome bezel, let dry, then apply. It will keep the junk decal from shrinking really bad, but it still will shrink. Trevor

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
I thought the Silver were earlier CST bezels and chrome were later Cheyenne Super. Then again I'm always wrong.

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
It was, From 1969-1972 they had chrome edges. There were only 2 years of Woodgrain dashes that I am aware of which was 71-72. The factory kept from chroming the edges on surplus dashes after production stopped of our era trucks, this has never been on a truck. Sat on shelf for years. Trevor

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
If you want to sell the original bezel, let me know.
These bezels aren`t reproduced.Only the non-woodgrain are reproduced. These are offered with mylar woodgrain adhered to the pebble grain area to simulate the factory woodgrain dash. The factory woodgrain dashes have a sheet of plastic over the pebble grain and the woodgrain is photoetched on,like the`72 door panel inserts and glovenox applique.

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
Thanks Tim, I knew these weren't reproduced and that's why I went out and found the best original one I could find. The original one you see with the chrome costs me $40 just in that shape. I don't think I want to get rid of it just yet.
72 super, I think I am going to hold onto it, I don't think I will ever have a chance at finding another NOS woodgrain dash for the money again. Trevor

Re: Won a NOS Cheyenne Super Woodgrain instument panel
The woodgrain repops won't stick with the adhesive as is. However, take a warm to hot blowdryer to the face of the bezel with the repop overlay and it will melt the adhesive, which will adhere with duct-tape-like results. Good luck if you want to remove it. But it won't come off and looks great!
