steering column
i have a 1978 chevy k20 frame with a 1985 body. i changed the column from a 1986 chevy and everything was good and now when i put the key in and turn it to accessories the gear shifter goes down and i have to pull it up and turn the key to start it and same to take the key out. anybody have any ideas

that doesnt make sense if the linkage is hooked up.. that would hold it in place

I believe your shift rod needs adjustment. Pinch bolt needs to be loosened (while in park) and moved a little bit. Once loosened it will want to move in the direction it needs to go. If it's not rusted it may self-adjust while loose. Shouldn't move very much. Be sure to torque nut before checking.
