All depends who you talk to.

Some say nothing...some say paint.
I have seen 2 distinct grill inserts, so i beleive they were actually differant.
To throw a stick in the spokes, the '70 insert was discontinued many years ago, and the 69 insert is considered a replacement.
I can't remember who posted this originally...but I saved it.

The truck years scroller at ChevyDuty explain the differences pretty good

As far as I know the top is a 69 and the bottom pic is a 70. They actually continued to produce the 1970 style as the replacement. Even the re-pops have the vertical bars.

Top is 69, bottom is 70. My old 70 longhorn had the bottom grill.
No one makes the proper 70 insert.

wierd on my 70 the parking lights in the grill have yellow,or amber len's and the two pictures you have of them are clear len's.

my 70 also has the grill listed on the top and my old 70 i had had the bottom grill insert. my 70 i have now is a base model truck and the old 70 i had was a big block truck with air. wierd thing indeed. i know the grills in my trucks havent been changed as there is no indication of them being swapped out.

i bet they had some 69 grills left over and used them in early production untill they ran out,i cant prove this of course. but you know the factory did do wierd things.

The parking lights should be clear, amber lenses would be a first by me... I know an amber bulm makes them look a little amberish, but not full up amber.
Here is a pic of my old '70 Longhorn...notice the clear lenses.

my bad, i wasnt holdin my head right when i looked at my parking lights.
well i think it has some dirt in it that made it look like it was another color in the dark.

but the grill insert in mine looks like the egg crate type.
