Fuel tank, right vs. left side

I have a 79 GMC with the fuel tank on the right side. Never liked walking around to fill the tank and I really don't want to put the tank in between the frame rails in the back. I'm currently rebuilding my bed and have the opportunity to acquire new bed sides. The bed side I can get now has the filler hole on the driver side and non on the passenger side.

Question: Can I use the hardware I took off the right side (fuel tank, straps, mounting brackets, etc) and use them on the left side? Or, do I have to make a trip to the salvage yard to get the right components.

I know I'll need to re-route the fuel lines etc.

Thanks Mike

I know the filler vent hose is different, and I believe the metal portion of the fuel neck is different. Also you need to change the sending unit so the outlets are pointed the right direction.

Re: Fuel tank, right vs. left side

on my trucks with dual tanks, the only differences are the sending units and the hard lines that go over the frame.
the tank selector is on the passenger side so the metal fuel lines that go over the top of the frame are short on the passenger side and long on the drivers side to make it to the selector...not sure how the single tanks are plumbed....
