th400 kickdown

my trans has and electronic kickdown with the switch on the gas pedal. the switch on the gas pedal has power and is sending power down to the trans like its supposed to and when its supposed to, however the kickdown does not work unless speed is under 35 and even then it will only down shift 3-2 not to low gear like it should. and there is no passing gear kickdown. does the module that the wire hooks into go bad or is something wrong with the trans itself, just had i rebuilt a couple weeks ago

Sounds like they changed something internally when they rebuilt it.

Call the shop and tell them the differences in kick down before and after the rebuild and they should know what to do to get it back to the way it was before.

It is possible they gave you another transmission off their shelf and not your actual transmission back.

Some rebuild books say a T-400 should only kick down to 2nd gear and not go to first but I have had T-400's that did and it sounds like yours did too.

Maybe it is a valve body modification from a certain brand of shift kit. I don't know for sure but would definitely like to know. It makes a huge difference in performance.

Re: th400 kickdown

ive never seen a 400 till i got my truck and saw a switch on the back of the carb, i pulled the power going to it and it didnt downshift at all! i hooked it back up and itll go from second to first no problem. BUT, when its cold it wont do it, the engine has to be at operating temp and the tranny has to be pretty warm as well. usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes of driving.
