I just bought a new lense for the 72 that was made for the Tach dash. I plan on installing the camaro tach and need to remove the numbers from the new lense.

Whats the best way to remove those things without ruining the finish of the lense?

Everything I can think of would either scratch it or dull the plastic.

What have you guys used?

This may not be the best way but I had to do something

VERY carefully use a razor blade and remove the paint (numbers) then use a plastic polishing compound to remove the scratches.

Wish they made one that didnt have anything on it. You either have the w/o tach and a ton of lines, or w/tach and a few numbers.

it uses a cotton pad for a bench grinder then a couple of different polishing compounds specificly for plastics - 5 to 8 micron

I just found a easier way

This guy is using Nail polisher sticks. Using different grit and finaly a polishing stick.... http://m2reviews.cnsi.net/scotts/basics/buff.htm

I was trying to clean up an old one a few years ago and used some 409 cleaner I had in the garage, and it started dissolving the painted numbers. But it was an old one that had seen a lot of sun exposure, so that could have had an effect.

Good luck with the new tach. They look so sweet in our trucks. I sold 2 of them last year and kind of regret it now. I recently bought a Camaro clock to put in my bezels empty hole. Post pics when your done!
