tailgates

Who has the best aftermarket tailgate out there or are they all the same? I'm trying to put my bed together and that's the missing link.

I bought a Tri-Plus smooth tailgate for the '71 4x4 and I was happy with it.

Is is sturdy or can you feel the difference between a stock and your repro?

Re: tailgates

I've had two NOS gates (one from 1970) and two repop gates and they look identical and weigh the same. The only difference is the new gates have nicer spot welds and welds on the ends than the originals had.

Triplus/keyparts is what you want to look for...there are other versions that aren't as good...heard some of the earlier versions w/out lettering were about as strong as cardboard

Re: tailgates

I bought a head gate from a place here in town and the box said Tri-pro has any one heard of them. They only had smooth tailgates and I want one with lettering. I got the rest of the bed parts from Classic Industries but they want $180 for shipping for the tailgate.

I didn't do any of the "scientific" comparisons but I sat on it, stood on it, & sat heavy stuff on it just like I do the stock ones with no problem...

Re: tailgates

The Goodmark tailgates are very rigid, they weigh the same and the trim fits perfectly......if you drill the holes right.

Where is the cheapest place to get a goodmark/keyparts/triplus tailgate?

I went to Outback Truck Parts........cause they are 4 miles away. But Google Goodmark Distributers and check the prices for each.
