Front Fender Patch Panels

The PO of our truck solved his rust problems by just cutting the bottom edge of the front fenders off. I'm looking for some patch panels to weld back in pace. Couldn't find these in LMC. To be specific I'm looking for a piece to go at the very bottom of the front of the front fenders...both sides. Does anyone reproduce this piece? Or am I going to have to buy new fenders?

Here is a link:

The part number is 0849-164. It appears to be for the left side. I do not see one for the right side.

Thanks, it's for the right hand side and they don't sell one for the left side. I think it's because the right side is the common side to rust out due to the battery try. My problem is the PO trimmed the left side to match the right side, so it really won't do me any good to just buy one side. If I do that, then i'll have to just fab up something for the other side and if I'm going to do that, then I may as well treat both sides the same way. Maybe I can find some fenders to rob and patch this together. Thanks a million for your help though.

Re: Front Fender Patch Panels

Considering the price of the patch panels, the amount of labor involved in welding, smoothing and repainting both front fenders, you may be money ahead purchasing a set of good used OEM front fenders for your truck.

Thats what I did for...mine wasn't cut off but was dented by an ill placed bumper jack

Re: Front Fender Patch Panels

That's probably what I'm going to do. I found out that at our local Pull-a-part there is a 68 GMC. This fender won't work will it?

Yes it will. GMC fenders 68-72 are the same.

You're exactly right. Wish I had done this before, because I can get the whole fender @ Pull-a-Part for around $38.00 (if I read their website correctly). I just ordered the patch panel for the right side from Key parts so now I just need the left side.

I'm considering taking my battery powered sawzall back out to Pull-A-Part and chopping off the bottom portion of the drivers side fender. So what if I have to pay for the full fender. I don't really want to fool with removing the whole fender and all I need is the bottom piece.

Thanks for the help fellas. Oh...here's a picture from Key Parts website showing what years the fenders fit.
