opinions on HD paint theme - 63 short step

Found this on racingjunk.com while snooping. Nicely done, but not sure how I feel about it:

You need two tools in life: duct tape and WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, you use duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, you use WD-40.

hideous on a stepper IMO. It's not about the colors (looks like quality work), it's just I've yet to see a two-tone stepside (other than factory) that looks good. Other than that, the pinstripe is a little thick and wasn't really thought out well (look at the tailgate, stripe goes right through the lettering). It looks like a really nice truck though.

Looks great in a fleetside but bad in a stepper, mho. I had a friend with a 64 that had this paint scheme and got alot of compliments.

Yeah - my thoughts almost EXACTLY - maybe with a smooth tailgate it would work; a friend of mine just came up with a slight variation that somewhat uses the color breaks of a tri-five; if I have time I'll PhotoShop it up and post later

I like it, but its hard to have busy paint over busy body lines....agree with others that it would look better over a fleetside body. Thanx for posting.

I agree it would look better on a fleetside but then there's still the problem of the strip being to wide and going through the top of the letters on the tailgate. The tailgate is the crux of the problem. I think black with orange letters or vise versa orange with black letters, or a combination of the two. The grill bothers me to a lesser degree, IMO just not well thought out.

Re: opinions on HD paint theme - 63 short step

I didnt click on the thumbnails before...it looks like the stripe is too low. I re-did my tailgate to lower the original line so a 2-tone would flow across the back. Kinda made it look like a 73+ tailgate.

Looks like a lot of work for that result; the paint looks nice, but...

Re: opinions on HD paint theme - 63 short step

IMHO two tones on a step side can be cool but they need to have the color split moved up so it isn't on the rear fenders, like the first photo, not the second photo.

And in regards to the big sticker on the windshield, in the words of Nascar driver Ricky Bobby from the movie Talledaga Nights:
"This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons"
