Lowering my 75' Longbed

I want to lower my 75' LB. Nothing extreme just want to lower the stance and close the gap between the wheels and the wheel wells without having rub problems. I was thinking maybe a 4/6 drop but need some suggestions on what the max for what I am looking for would be and the cheapest way to go about it.

Originally I was going to buy some lowering blocks for the rear but the leafs springs are on top of the axle so no go.

I am keeping the stock 15" wheels and plan on putting some chrome rings and center caps.

Any and all suggestions and pics are appreciated. I have never done this before.

Re: Lowering my 75' Longbed

My first thought was to tell you if you want to go "cheap" leave your truck alone. Quality suspension parts and a "correct" lowering of your truck will cost some money and won't be cheap.
You can do an affordable 4/6 drop. (which is very streetable) You may have to run a smaller front tire to drop the front 4 inches, though.
I suggest:

1) 3" drop spindles.
2) 1 coil cut from the original springs.
3) flip kit for the rear.
4) quality drop shocks.
5) don't forget to get the front suspension aligned when you are done..
Good luck.

Re: Lowering my 75' Longbed

the first drop I did was very street able it consisted of a coil cut in the front but I wouldn't cut any more and use a tool that doesn't cause metal to seriously hot or could cause problems on the coil, for the rear 2" drop shackles and removing a few leafs, the over load spring its the thick short one then the next short one

Flaming how much of a drop will that get you? Is it a 2/4 by removing the two leafs and the drop shackles?

Re: Lowering my 75' Longbed

Here is my '78 heavy half with a 2.5/4 - 2.5" drop spindles, 2" shackles, 2" hangers by western chassis. Purchased through sport truck direct. Cant remember how much though, been too many moons ago...

Wheels are 15x8 with a 255/60 front and 15x10 with a 275/60 rear.

Here is a current pic after the SWB conversion....

Libertad What did you paint you light bezels with or are they stripped of the chrome and powder coated? They look good and I am trying to figure the best way about doing it.

I painted them with Krylon "Satin Black" spray paint. It's not as dull as "flat" but not as shiny as "Gloss" Simple and looks great IMO
