does anybody know how much boost a 350 sbc with a stock bottom end and 0.30 stock style pistons can handle for daily driving. this will be on a completely rebuilt engine if i do it.

It should give you a rough idea. If you can put forged pistons in there, you would be better off.

If it's completely stock, then about 6-8 PSI with an intercooler. Forged rods and pistons and ARP fasteners all around would bring that figure up a bit more. A forged crank would further increase that and give you higher RPM capability as well.

That link is interesting. Sometimes you hear those stories of guys running great power levels and 1/4 mile times with mostly stock parts. My buddy took a 400 block that a very experienced mechanic friend of our said was junk and with some machine work turned into a screaming marine engine that propels his 24 foot boat to 65-66 mph! Now forced induction adds a whole nother layer of complexity, not really that bad so long as you are educated in the principles of it. If you are gonna put your foot into it every time you drive it than yes, forged internals are the only way to go. But if you only go into boost infrequently and for short spurts, like say maybe a block or so at a time, than maybe you don't need to spend all that dough. There are many engines out there that rarely see the kind of performance they were built to handle.

That link is something else. Its over 3 years old and up to 149 pages and still counting! Unless they are making it up there are guys doing 12 and 11 second 1/4 mile runs with all or mostly 2nd hand parts. Its one of the greatest threads I think I have ever read and I've only just started!

Make sure to get the ring gap right! I would atleast do cheap forged pistons, you might regret it if you don't later down the road. A kit like one of these would just be cheap junk right?

Do the turbos get their oil from what looks to be a spin on adaptor that goes under the oil filter?

It wouldn't take much to build, mid length headers some pipe...plus you don't have all the heat in the engine bay.

Would be a lot of lag to deal with, kind of a pain to find the perfect setup to minimize it. I would be leary of the ebay turbo kits, I honestly think that you get what you pay for, and if your looking for something reliable, I wouldn't look there. I've got a set of the ebay headers on my daily driven bmw, but we had to weld them a bit to get the ports to look decent. Just a word of advice, and I agree, there are some headers that are decent but I would follow what a friend used for a set rather than just any old ebay headers.

Or weld some V band flanges. Lag is not an issue either.

big block gets rid of any lag problems to me, who cares if the turbo hasent spooled up fully when its still smoking its tires?

i have probably 90% of the parts already which is the funny thing...
had plans to do it but kinda flopped em around a bit and it just got set on the back burner

If you've read the thread on turboforums about the Orange Impala with the twin "chinese" turbos on a 396/402 platform i think it was, well i was going to basically copy that into my 55' an still might if i get the time

I have my twin turbo headers built and tons of parts for a new engine, but cash is a bit low right now so it's on the back burner as well.

I should be in good shape next year LOL and I'm in no rush. Truck is getting a paint job, and new interior this winter.

I don't know how some people can afford all the stuff they buy.
