Power ram to saginaw conversion

So my power ram assisted steering on my '67 C20 blew this morning so I would like to just install the later model saginaw box. My question is whether I'll need to change anything else in the steering system like the drag link or pitman arm or if I can just basically remove all the ram stuff and install the new box?

i think you need to change the center link tierod ends idler arm and spindles for the conversion

I think you can use all the stock linkage but be aware that just bolting the new box to the frame isnt a ideal set-up, the 68 and up frames were bumped in to clear the p/s box larger sector shaft. If you just bolt it up, centered for the center link will not be centered for the box and the truck will either scrub tires on tight turns or wander on center depending on how you overcome the problem, Ill post a pic of what I did to overcome the problem.

You will need a new draglink as the old one has the control valve stud mounted to it. You will also need the pitman arm from the "new" saginaw box as the old style piman arm is totally different.

The pressure port on the pump is flared differently and has a reducer in it, you will need this piece or a later model pump

Due to yhe length and fittings, new hoses will be needed.

The outer tie rod ends on the 67 C20 are one of a kind and would not thread into the adjuster sleeves on the later model inner tie rod ends that are needed to fit the later model draglink....

Can you tell I just did this exact thing 1 month ago....very frustrating for such a simple swap....dont forget to dimple the frame or buy a custom bracket to provide clearance for the new gear box....

I ended up having to replace everything from Outer tie rod end to outer tie rod end with parts from my 72 C10 and 73-87 pieces...but it works and I drive the dog snot out of her now.....

You can get new & remanufactured control valves (if that is your problem) on Ebay & at parts stores. It is the same one used on the 63-82 Corvettes. Mine lasted 42 years before I had to replace it. Just a thought. There is also a guy that sells instructions for using later model systems on the older trucks. He is called the bondobandito & sells them for $15.00.
