Fuel Injection
I'm seriously considering switching to fuel injection, but I'm still trying to figure some things out here. Right now I have an edlebrock on my 350 sb crate motor and I'm getting about 9-10 mpg. Generally how much more mpg would you expect from making the switch to a tpi setup in these era trucks? How much would it cost to make the switch? I've cruised craigslist for a bit and it seems like you can get most of the parts for about 100 bucks, don't know about the computer and wiring harnesses though. Is it something thats hard to get installed and calibrated? I'm pretty good mechanically, but I've never once messed with one of these, so I don't want to jump into something like this and get in over my head, as my truck is a daily driver.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated Jon

Re: Fuel Injection

Re: Fuel Injection
Wow 17-23mpg is significantly better than what I'm getting in my 66. I was planing to buy a little beater car and retire my '66 as a DD, but if I can get that kind of decent mileage out of her with TPI I would be better off sinking the money into this project.

Re: Fuel Injection
I do have a 700R4 with lockup converter and a 3.08 rear end, and it is a all stock 94 roller TPI, I drove my 62 for 12 years every day..just recently retired it to make major rust repairs

Re: Fuel Injection
I am rbuilding a 64 c10 but here is a pic of the 1985 c10 with a 1989 TPI 5.7 and 700r4. Did this engine swap 15 years ago. Engine/trans had 38,000 mile on it when I did it. It now has 174,000 miles on it. Gave it to my son. Driven everyday. Poppy

Re: Fuel Injection
EFI isn't that hard to work with once you get past being intimidated and understand how the system works. Of course once you get rid of the emissions parts, it is simpler yet. That is if you can get away with that in your state. I would suggest upgrading to an OD trans at the same time. That will not only simplify the install some, but give you good mpg like Bugeyev8 was getting. One thing I would suggest doing once you acquire the engine and trans you want is do some research and find who you would like to deal with on the chip and either a harness rework or a new harness. Get that part figured out before you start tearing into things, and the conversion will go a lot smoother.
