Corvette Steering wheel

I've scoured the site and cannot find a thread that tells how to mount a Corvette (or Rally ...or whatever) style steering wheel on a '72. What would I need to get this accomplished? also, I want to have a Corvette horn button, if someone has this and could explain it.

Re: Corvette Steering wheel

The sport wheel with three slotted aluminum spokes and vinyl or mahoghany grip? There`s a hub that fits the shaft, then the wheel,a mounting plate/wire/spting/contact,and then a choice of caps. It`s all straight forward if you have everything. There are also the 4-spokes from the other GMs that had a vinyl rimmed horn button and the same mounting.

Re: Corvette Steering wheel

Use the 67-68 Camaro hub.
The 69 Camaro hub is a sightly larger diameter than the 67-72 truck columns.

I have three of these steering wheels. (two in trucks and one in my Camaro)
They are my favorite.

Re: Corvette Steering wheel

So,while we`re on the subject...What about the gMC guys? What can he do for a horn button?i`ve been considering different options. So far,I`m just using an Olds horn button.I figure with the car stuff,I use the other GM marks rather than Chevy.I want to machine the bow tie off the center of the aluminum cap.Maybe enlarge that area some. Then either machine GMC in,make an applique, center cap emblem?,leave plain,???
The other option is the vinyl rimmed one, like the Vette showed, and get a GMC emblem in there somehow.
WWYD???

Re: Corvette Steering wheel

I bought this wheel many years ago. It's got the GM hub and Corvette button. You can take the button apart and put any kind of LOGO you want in it if you are carefull enough!
If I remember right I got the steering wheel from Eckler's corvette in Fla. as stated any of the GM hubs will work some are just a tad bigger than others.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Corvette Steering wheel

Where exactly can you find the 15" steering wheels? I briefly looked at Classic Industries' website and all I see are 14" ones. Is there another company that you can recommend that has the 15" wheels for sale? Also, what cars should I be seaching under i.e. camaro, corvette, chevelle, nova, etc. etc.

Thanks.

You should have bypassed all the problems trying to fit a Corvette steering wheel by buying one of the rare Corvette optioned trucks!
