Heater Explanation?

I know this is probably asking a lot, but could anybody out there provide me with a detailed explanation of how the climate control system in a 1972 C-10 (with A/C) works? I'm trying to get my defroster (heater) working, and all I see is a mess of vacuum hoses, cables, and wires. Is there a diagram out there anywhere that explains what the heck is going on? I'm confused.

Re: Heater Explanation?

After reading this over, maybe I should be more specific.

The A/C compressor has been removed, and the blower motor is shot. I have a new one on order. However, I also noticed that the vacuum hose which runs from the vacuum pod on the passenger side fender through the firewall wasn't hooked up, and the valve that controls the return of coolant from the heater core to the radiator wasn't opening. So, I hooked up the vacuum line from the vacuum pod through the firewall (there was a little nub sticking out), and I still don't appear to be getting coolant flow through the heater core, even with the temperature control on hot. It's getting cold, and a defroster would be an amazing luxury.

Re: Heater Explanation?

For now, try hooking up a vacuum source directly to the water valve, The valve is normally closed until vacuum is applied which will stop the water flow.
