Looks like a 465. Here's a good website.

Reverse should be to the right.

It is not an SM465, they have PTO covers on both sides. It should be an SM420, but I am not sure from looking at it.

Some guy offered me $100 for the tranny and bellhousing plus shipping. Should I take it and run?

No I told him what I think it is and I showed him the site. I think he knew before I did that it wasnt a SM465.
I just dont know what a fair price is for it, no matter what it is.

Then I think $100 is a pretty fair price. You might get as much as $200 if and when you find someone that REALLY wants it, but that's your decision. Personally, I would get rid of it.

My research says it may be a new process 435

Re: Tranny Id Help Please

Can anyone confirm this is a NP435? I'm pretty positive at this point, since a few of them were put into 67-72 trucks, but any more info would help.

Sure looks like my NP435. That little "gear" cast into the case, I think is a New Process insignia.

Re: Tranny Id Help Please

I don't know how rare they are. I do know mine came with the truck in 69, as I bought it from the original owner. My SPID calls it a CR trans. It has 197 thousand miles on it & still works perfect.

Re: Tranny Id Help Please

I have both a 465 and a 435. I am putting the 435 in my build and that is most definitely a NP435! $100 is a fair price. I paid $175 plus shipping for mine and it came with the bellhousing.

Thanks guys! Mine came with the truck too. I wish I could check my SPID, but the PO decided to spray bomb over it...

Re: Tranny Id Help Please

In about a month I'm gonna pull the 435 out of my 68 and put in a 465 with a ranger overdrive unit and regear the rear axle. I'm preferring the granny gear in the 465 as opposed to the 4-1 ratio in the 435. I'm sure the 465 will be a little quieter also

Kind of, I think it was more of a transitional transmisision between the SM420 and the 465 in 1968 and 1969. I have never seen the 435 past 1969. I have had 2 trucks with the 435 and both were big blocks and also had the dana 60 rear with 3.54 ratio and a power-loc posi

Does this help? Notice the difference in the case around the shifter on the 435 and the 465.

Re: Tranny Id Help Please

Wow-a ten year old thread. I cannot remember exactly why but I was on a six year old thread and mods closed it on me sayin they could not believe a six year old thread got bumped..It was about putting delays in the wiper switch. I found through pm's that this was still possible and a guy here named Putter can still do it to original switches. Don't know why they close threads but a lot of good info is lost.
SOO ten years later you may have found the answer. Hope the mods don't close this one cause that's some good stuff!
