68 gmc with 68 chevy front end

hello,
I am new here and have a question to ask. I have a 68 gmc truck with a 68 chevy front end on it. Can I replace the grill and grill support and a few other small parts to convert it over to a gmc, or due i need new fenders and hood. Will the old radiator support still work? After purchasing the truck a few months ago i learned that the truck is a gmc even though the tiltle states it as a chevy.

Thanks Rich

Welcome to the board from Texas!! To answer your question, if you want to keep it a 68 you'll have to get a 68 grill with the top grill bar, your existing hood, grill support, and fenders will work. But any GMC grill will work as long as you can find a 67/68 top grill bar to rivit to the grill. You will have to fill some chevrolet lettering holes in the hood too!

What is the top grill bar ? What about the radiator support the chevy has only one head light per side the gmc has two. I looked for a gmc radiator supports in brothers and lmc and they are not listed only chevy.

The top grill bar is a filler piece that rivits to the top of the grill. On the chevs it is built into the grill. On the 69-72's it is the chrome that is in front of the hood and the filler piece all in one. Look at my pics of my blue and white 72. I think the radiator support you mentioned is actually the center grill support. It is the same for GMC's and chevys. Here is a linky that will explain it a little better.

How much stuff do you have from the GMC? The radiator support will have to be changed to support the four headlights. Mine is a chevy but I had a GMC parts truck so I used the GMC grill. It all fits (68 to 68)

Re: 68 gmc with 68 chevy front end

I do not have anything from the gmc. When I bought the truck it had a 70 Chevy front end on it even though it was a 1968. I started just to do a few little things here and there next thing you know the whole truck is torn apart. I am in the process of putting it back together when I made the decision to put the correct 1968 year front end back on the truck . I then started to do a little research on the vin number and I now believe that the truck is a gmc even though the title states it is a chevy truck. I was just wondering what parts I would need and if the fenders /hood for a 67-68 chevy would work.

Thanks Rich

The 68 chevy hood and fenders will work just fine. The radiator support will have to be changed to accommodate the headlights. New headlight rings and the grill.
