Smile Heyyy I Finally Found One.........

Well I finally found the truck I have been looking for; A long wheelbase GMC plus it is a big block and a "Custom Camper"; I located it at collectorcartrader a couple of weeks ago and hemmed and hawed about pursuing it; then it was on ebay and the wife and I partied too hard on saturday night and we didn't get home in time to bid on it before the bidding ended; so i called about it today and made a deal;needs a little work but hey the Great Wall of China wasn't built in a day, you know what I mean; either I about have my worst nightmare or hell of a good time

Twenty three years ago I sold my 70 Chevelle SS 396(402); Dark Green, white stripes, vinyl roof, cowl induction, 4 speed, buckets, console; rebuilt motor w/L88 cam (I know, I know too much cam but it sure had a lope to it) and i have been kicking my self in the butt ever since and hopefully this will give me some satisfaction and relief from the agony of not having that powerful motor screaming wide open and that little flap on hood opening up

hope the picture loads okay

Congratulations. Regrets are a bad thing. Sometimes you must have to go for it. I paid too much for mine given the condition but I have never regretted it.

Congrats on your new truck. I too have a 402BB in my 70cst. I graduated in 70 and at that time I could not afford a BB Chevelle or Nova so I ended up with a 350 Chevelle. I found this truck in Tn. a couple of years ago and since it as a 402BB plus a 1970 I had to buy it. Whats funny is I was looking for a mid-50's Chevy Truck when I found this truck in the truck trader, I went out that night and bought it. It even has factory ac and buckets. The guy I bought it from said he had over a dozen calls that night. I guess timing is everything. I have a lot of work to do to get it done but it will get done.
Remember...Any one can drive a Ford or Dodge, but it takes someone special to drive a 67-72 Chevy/GMC Truck!! :bowtie

Cool New to the Forum

I am new to this forum, I just picked up a 1967 Chevy C20 LB. I purchased it from my brother, where it had been sitting for around 4 years. It was owned before him by a mechanic who raced it as a sleeper. The original 6cyl has been removed and a 402BB with a 400 TurboHydromatic trans installed. When I turned 16 I bought my first vehicle a 1970 Chevy C10 and that was the start to my truck line. I see you all talk about different type of trucks, ie campers specials and so on. I am not sure how to identify what my is, but will take a picture of it soon and post it. It still has the gas tank behind the seat and so the father/son project begins. Any hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Wink padreisla 67 INFO

1967 -72 TRUCKS ARE CALLED THE CUSTOM SPORT TRUCK ERA. ACCORDING TO ONE MAGAZINE (CLASSIC TRUCK I THINK?) THESE TRUCKS HAVE NEVER LOST THEIR APPEAL TO MAIN STREAM AMERICA PLUS THEY WERE THE FIRST GENERATION OF TRUCKS TO HAVE CAR LIKE OPTIONS SUCH AS; A/C, AM/FM RADIO, BIG BLOCK, BUCKETS SEATS, TACH, ETC. IT IS SAID THESE TRUCKS HAVE REACHED THE ICON STATUS OF THE TRI-FIVES. PARTS ARE EASY TO COME BY AND THEYRE ARE DOZENS OF SUPPLIERS FOR THE TRUCKS SUCH AS GMCPAUL AND CLASSIC HEARTBEAT. PLUS THERE ARE MANY OTHER FINE SUPPLIER OF TRUCK PARTS. YOU WILL FIND THE PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD AND A FEW OTHER SIGHTS VERY HELPFUL.
ONE MIGHT SAY THIS IS AN EXTENDED FAMILY.
1967 WAS THE BEGINNING OF THESE GREAT TRUCKS AND STANDARD AND CUSTOM TRIM LEVELS WERE AVALIABLE FOR YOUR 67 TRUCK. A TRIM OPTION WAS THE CST (CUSTOM SPORT TRUCK) WHICH MADE THE TRUCK LOOK A LITTLE NICER. ONE COULD GET BUCKET SEATS AND A 327 V8 IN THESE TRUCKS. TWO MODELS WERE FLEETSIDE AND STEPSIDE. I BELIEVE BOTH COULD BE HAD IN LWM OR SWB (LONG WHEEL BASE/SHORT WHEEL BASE). I BELIEVE A CUSTOM CAMPER HAS A 8 1/2' BED WHICH WAS AN OPTIONAL BED TO BE USED WITH CAMPER TOPS.

HOPES THIS LITTLE BIT OF INFO HELPS. THERE ARE MANY BOKS AVALIABLE ABOUT THESE TRUCKS.
WELCOME ABOARD,
70CST

REMEMBER: ANYONE CAN DRIVE A DODGE OR FORD, BUT IT TAKES SOMEONE SPECIAL TO OWN AND DRIVE A 67-72 CHEVY/GMC TRUCK!!

70CST, there are a couple things that are not quite acurate there.
The 8 1/2 foot bed was not the Custom Camper, that was the Longhorn. Custom Camper was nothing more than heavy duty shocks, springs, and a sway bar.
Also, they were called glamor trucks...probably named by some journalist at motor trend or something. I think it sounds gay myself.

Wink I Stand Corrected

longhornmail...Thanks for the correction...
My claim to these trucks are "I know just enough to be dangerous." But that's what is great about these sights. A great team is made from we/us not I...and that's what makes this truck hobby so great. We areTEAM! WE are FAMILY!! Ok maybe I'm getting caried away. HEHEHE

But it is the input from all that makes these great sight for info end just plain fun to read.
Regards,
70cst :bowtie

Cool Brakes & Stuff

When the 402 was installed in my 67, they did not move the brake lines and they are within 1 inch of the headers. I would like to change out the headers and also replace the brake lines, fluid. Because the brake fluid has basically boiled the brake fluid the front cylinders needs to be replaced. The problem is that the local chevy dealership does not carry any parts for my year of truck and in checking with the local autoparts stores their books dont go that far back. Where can I get the right parts without being ripped off? I want to have the truck sit a little lower, it came with a set 8 lug white spoke wheels, 3 of them are 8 inch and 2 of them are 10 inch. I cant decide if I want to have them bead blaster or just look for a set of the old Crager aluminum wheels. I also found a set of wheels off of a new H2 which are also 8 lug 6.4 inch gap for $200 locally. I am just not sure if they will work on my truck. What have some of you done and what were the problems you ran into. Thanks again for your help.

transporter blew into town last night at 11:00 pm; I met him at a transmission repair shop down the hill from where I live(about 3/8 mile)(he would have had a hell of time getting that monster transporter up into the residential neighborhood where I live) ;
wouldn't you know it that he had move 4 cars to get to my truck all the way at the upper deck front of a tandem auto transporter and the mother f$%&ing truck would not start; colder than sh!t and this poor guy had to move 2 more cars and change all the ramps to let my truck roll off the truck; the driver said it ran fine to load it on the transporter; had a friend bring it up the hill to my house this morning;
Glad it is here; it will need some work but it is what I expected for a truck 30 plus years young

Let the fun begin
