location to cut frame for a c-notch

sorry if i 'm missing it in FAQS and can't seem to find it in search. but where do i center my cut when doing a home made c-notch on my 85 SWB that is gettin a flip kit, but not flipped yet? do i center the notch over the stock bump stop or do i center it one inch back (towards rear). i can't seem to find a clear statement in a search that say's " all flipkits relocate the axle an inch further back" or is this misunderstood on my part?? and since i'm using a sectioned piece of pipe i want to make sure i got it centered somewhere close to where the axle is going to hit the c-notch.. can anyone help me out with this?

I can't find a pic of mine right now, but I also made my own from a pipe section. I used the old bumper (stop) bracket as a reference and centered from its center. Seems to work fine!

I didn't use pipe for mine, but we pretty much just centered my notch over the bump stop and it works pretty well.

I would say,... install the flip kit and then center it over the axle tube. No need to guess when you are doing all that work.

how bout this flip kit moving the exle back an inch thing i 've found a couple of times in archives?? can anyone corroborate? and i'll probably just wait on the c-notch until i have the flip kit done. i was wanting to get that now while the bed was off for painting. but oh well.

It does move the axle back. It does two things.
1) centers the wheel in the wheelwell opening.
2) saves you the trouble of having to cut your driveshaft.
