Hey Guys, I wanted to share the build of my truck with the members of the board. I have learned alot from this board so hopefully someone might benefit from my experiences. Never done this before so hope it doesn't suck! Jay
So I guess I will start from the begining. I was looking for a clean cst and found this one on evilbay in NewMexico.I bought the truck in april of this year and flew down and drove it home 2500 miles to Mass. So from April to a month ago it sat in my garage while I finished and sold my other 67 3/4 ton. Needed the money from that to start this build and couldn't afford the extra insurance for 2 trucks etc. on the road. 1 week ago today I started the tear down. Gotta love rust free stuff it went real easy, no issues.

Sent the frame and suspension pieces out to be media blasted. I ordered the suspension parts and disk kit from CPP. 4.5F 5R drop. Should have my frame back this week and will be sending it and the other suspension pieces over to the powder coater. This will be my daily driver so I want it to look great but also stand the test of time and weather. I wont use it in the winter but rain or shine spring, summer,Fall. It will serve as a parts chaser also. I will update this when I have some more to share.

That truck would make an excellent start. It dont look like you will be doing much rust repair...

Thankfully not much. Right front fender had a dent repaired down low at one time and has started to rust but other than that just some light surface rust.
It gives me the chance to spend the loot on the chassis and drive train. |

Got the frame, suspension parts, rear end etc. back from media blasting, came out great. Installed the c-notch , narrowed the frame rails in the front for header clearance. primed the rear in epoxy primer until I rebuild it. I can't believe how clean the part #'s are and diff. code stamped on the axle tube. You don't see clean stuff like this up in here in the northeast. The c-notch and the other parts are from CPP. The notch was really really well made and I think should really reinforce the rear of the frame making it stronger than the stock factory set-up. Fit was really good the directions are poor at best. finished up by delivering the frame and suspension components to the powder coater for a nice 60% gloss black finish. Hope to get it back this week and start some assembly. The cab is at he media blaster now and should get it back and in epoxy this week if everything works out and I can find the time.

Thanks, I do plan on adding the side mouldings, just afraid of the quaility of the after-market one's. Alot of the repro mouldings for the GTO's (which I have the most experience with) just aren't up to the quality that I like or expect. I'm really OCD. I drive myself crazy with being picky. I think I will change the build title to The OCD CST Have you used the repro one's?

I get you, Im kind of a picky person as well. I've never bought molding in the past, but Im thinking about getting a set for my blue 68 on my avatar, Ive heard most of the kits out there are manufactured in china (and you know what that means). Member Kevin (LFD) bought a moulding kit for his lowbuck project truck, and he said he was pretty satisfied with it, might want to ask him or send him a PM.

Side note... You might consider checking the boxes to ensure you received "everything" you ordered; including bolts, nuts, and washers.

No doubt! I checked it all out the day it arrived. Everything was accounted for. You never know! I'm happy all the parts came at one time, so I can start assembly as soon as I get the frame back. I like to see progress or I get side tracked with other stuff and have to work my self back into the project.

So I picked up my frame and suspension parts yesterday from the powder coater. They came out great. Now I need to start getting it together.

Today I picked up the cab from the blaster. Very happy there were no surprises. I can't get over how solid this thing is. I need to remove all of the old seam sealer and then re-seal the entire cab with self leveling seam sealer. I will do that tomorrow and then put it in epoxy primer.

2500 miles and you took it apart..lmao!!! this is going to be a killer truck in NE....do me a favor and be gentle on my truck carpet....Did you pick up any goodies at Summit?
How long was your trip?? and how are you planning your drop..I noticed no pics of LCA where in mass are you?? we don't have any good powder coaters up here that can take a part that big..and I'm sure your not that far from me and It might be an option for my next build

The grey areas are all bare steel. I will da the inside area's of the cab and prime before paint. I will take some more pic's tomorrow of any progress if I get a chance to work on it.
