Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
The seller is either lying about what the cluster was pulled from, or the PO of the "1500" got it from a meduim duty (or higher) truck and put it in there.
These things are almost always misadvertised. Buyer beware.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
It's a clock, and the fuel gauge is in the bottom of the tach. This is a medium-duty truck cluster; another board member kitbashed a cluster from one:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...15#post3425815 though I think it could have been done in a manner that retained the stock flexi-printed-circuit on the back of the cluster. If I'd run into one before I did mine I might have adapted it, or used parts of it; it'd be nice to have the fuel gauge in the tach to free up the lower left hole for a trans-temp gauge. |

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
I just love how the sellers always crop the picture so as not to show the broken mount on the left side.
That gauge in the lower left looks like an air gauge to me. Last edited by whiskeydented; 11-17-2009 at 07:47 AM. |

This cluster is also an AMP cluster, in order to put in in a mid to late 70's, a rewiring is in order otherwise you might have a crispy truck.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
Yep, what BigBlock said, early 70s. Amp gauge and no redline on the tach. I've noticed that on the ones that I have. Later ones have the yellow and red at 4200 RPMs.
I actually never saw one of these with the air gauge....usually vacuum.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
Did the big truck clusters have 85mph speedometers or is this Frankensteins' monster?

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
One that I have still has the 100 mph speedo. Also has the OVERSPEED warning light below the speedo.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
That would make a cool shift light! Oh, and considering that 55 is highlighted I would guess theat the speedo is from the era when the government regulated speedometers.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
What trucks do I have to look at to find a 100mph speedo? What do I have to do to put it in my truck?

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
It's a 73-76 due to the amp gauge. I agree that the air pressure gauge is less common than the vac gauge so it is kinda unique.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
I'm not sure exactly, but I know that all the 80's trucks had 85mph speedo's. I'd guess the 73-78 range.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
All the 79 and older speedo's are 100mph, at least from what I've seen. Even the big trucks. That's weird that it's only 85 speedo, and the 55 is highlighted. Maybe the first few years of these that had the 85 speedo.
Hmm. Guess I need to hit the yard and grab the one out of a 74 and see what that is.....

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
Hmm, not sure, never saw a reason to get a non-tach dash to tear it apart. But I would imagine they would have it.

Re: Tach Cluster on CL (In) Not Mine........
Yep, under the speedo. Not sure how it works, but pretty sure it's only on the big trucks. Tore apart alot of truck dashes, they usually have 4wd lock and choke, or something like that.
