Getting rid of factory roof marker lights

Talking to a guy about buying his truck. Truck has marker lights that I don't like. He says they are factory and that there are flat spots where the lights are. Is there an actual difference in the roof for trucks with and w/o marker lights? If so, how easy is it for a good body man to patch to look like a non-marker light roof?

Yes they are different roofs for with and w/o marker lights.

As always, it comes down to how much $ you have to spend on things and only you can decide that.

If you're shopping around for a truck, just wait for the next one. There are far more trucks out there w/o the lights then there are with them. Being in NM, you get to shop in the rust free belt of TX, NM, AZ, CA. I'd wait for what you want.

Re: Getting rid of factory roof marker lights

My rule of thuimb has always been:"Buy a truck with cab lights if you want cab lights. If you don`t,buy another truck w/o them. Most don`t.
To me it`s just not worth changing stuff like that when there`s more to chose from.If the truck is "just right" excet for cab lights,I`d try to get used to them. They really aren`t that big of a detraction once you stop focussing on them, like door handles and windshield wipers.

I hate to see someone cut up a harder to find cab light equipped cab. You just don't see them all the time. Trevor

Bill, hold out for the "right" truck or you will regret it later.

Re: Getting rid of factory roof marker lights

Thanks for the input guys. Can't disagree with any of the comments. I have bought great trucks in the past that weren't exactly what I wanted and was sorry later. I'm looking for a 72 SWB Cheyenne Super 4x4 (I know,... who isn't?)and have been for 25+ yrs. I quit looking seriously a while back when the prices went crazy. Thought that this economy might make it feasible again. Just wasn't sure how picky I could be and actually get one bought. It is possible that I could live with the marker lights if everything else was "right". As far as finances go, I shouldn't even be looking now but thought this may be my last chance.

Re: Getting rid of factory roof marker lights

yep, but factory would have the "flat spots" for the cab lights, whereas the dealer installed were the teardrop chromed-housing ones that fit the contour of the roof. Trevor
