Hello from Vancouver, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
My name is Rob Fisher and I noticed that the GMC guys are outnumbered by the Chevy guys. Thought I better sign up and add another GMC to the mix. My Dad had a 1964 GMC when I was learning to drive, it was a long time ago but thought finding another one might help me relive my youth. I was able to find a 1964 long box in North Carolina, about as far away from Vancouver as you can get. Oh well, its the right year and the right colour,so I bought it, how hard could it be to bring it across the country. I hope to have it home for Christmas.

Well, It's getting closer to reality. Just waiting for the funds to clear the bank and the truck is all mine. I know that I should leave it stock but some of the women in my family have expressed an interest in having a turn behind the wheel. That in mind I think that I should try to make a little easier and safer for them to drive, My thought is to have the brakes converted to discs in the front and to change over to power steering. I have done some research and it looks like CPP in California offers everything that I need in a couple of different kits.
Having never dealt with them can any of you out there offer your opinion on dealing with them, what parts I should be buying and how good there parts are.
I also thought of having some of them installed before bringing it North to Canada, Can anyone recommend a good shop on the west coast to do some of the work for me. Any help is appreciated.

My motto is keep it original as possible but where practical. Yours as mine is a driver and not a museum piece. So there is nothing wrong with adding drive-ability / reliability features such as power steering, disk brakes etc. You still have the original look of a great vintage truck, but with the drive-ability features of a more modern one. Sorry, I don't have any recommendations for you. Good Luck!

Have you tried Early Classic? They have some of the best suspension and brake conversion stuff out there.

I would like to start by thanking all of you that welcomed me into the forum.
I have been doing some research and everyone seems to have a different idea on how to modify the suspension on my 1964 GMC. I have read that you can also bolt in the complete front crossmember from newer trucks which would give me power disc brakes up front. Can anybody confirm and let me know what year would be best to use.
