Tire?Rim size
Hi, I am a newby, and am putting together a '81 stepside. As per a recommendation, I got AmericanRacing 8" for the front, and 10" for the back. The recommended tire size for the 10" rims is 255/70/15. So my question is, will that mount up OK? The tire company recommends not wider than an 8.5 rim for this tire. But that is their guideline. What do you think, are the 255s Ok on a 10"rim?
Thanks, SquareD |

Re: Tire?Rim size
I would run 255/60 on the front and 275/60 on the rear. You wont have any issues with these size tires fitting the wheels properly.

Re: Tire?Rim size
I'm admittedly unfamiliar with the sizing requirements of stepsides, but what backspacing are you going with? That will determine how wide a tire you can run. The next question, is how tall a tire do you want to run? The reason I ask is if you're comfortable with running a shorter tire, you can get widely available 295/50's. those measure just under 26". The 275's measure 28". I myself would consider 275's the minimum on a 10" wheel. Myself, I prefer a little sidewall bulge, and like a taller tire on trucks. If you've got the right backspacing and have frame and fender clearance, you might consider a BFG Radial T/A in say 285/70R15 (almost 31" tall) 305/50R15 (27") or something of the like. Use a good wheel tire calculator like this one http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs...0&text1=&text2
Good luck!
