Thanks Guys
Custom 10 it is easier doing it on the frame Scott 72 IT is oak and stainless strips. One coat of stain and 10 coats of clear and I sanded between each coat turned out like glass

I'm in the middle of mine as well. Why is it easier to do on the truck?

Re: wood floor installed pictures
Most of the wood kits do not have pre-drilled holes so you need it on the frame so you know were to drill the holes for the bolts that go through the frame

Re: wood floor installed pictures
In the picture below you can see that when I put the bed together I used scrap pieces of 1x4 on all four corners to temporary hold it in place while I got the box all squared up and the bolts tight.

Re: wood floor installed pictures
The old floor had so many holes in it I could not use it. Now this floor is so shinney I may be afraid to put anything in it and scratch it all up

Re: wood floor installed pictures
Same thing happened to me when I did mine. But you know what's great? Somebody asks me to help them move because I got a pickup and I just walk them over to my truck and say "See that? now you understand why I won't help you move."

Re: wood floor installed pictures
By the way Squirel, what polyurethane (I assume) did you use? I assume you used some kind of Natural stain just to bring the grain out but I keep hearing to use a true marine quality urethane for the extra UV protection that will keep the Sun from eating it up.

Re: wood floor installed pictures
Very nice. My truck could use a new wood floor(I got plywood screwed to the original wood right now) but I am afraid it would be too nice and I would ruin it by hauling stuff. Another reason I haven't done the wood in my truck is the price. Those kits seem pretty expensive, does anyone know how much cheaper it is if you buy lumber and cut it to fit yourself?

Re: wood floor installed pictures
Dan in Pasadena I have a carpenter buddy that swears by Varathane diamond wood finish outdoor with UV protection he uses it on everything. So Used that so if it fails I can blame him lol. I also used varathane wood stain.
leh72super1500 The underside is exactly like the top side I drilled all the holes in the wood then disassembled the wood stained and cleared both top and bottom. It looks really neat laying under the truck and seeing all that shinny wood

Re: wood floor installed pictures
Nice work. I restored a 52 Chriscraft and I am currently doing a 56 Lyman. I know the pains you have to take to get that nice of finish. 10 coats is what you need for it to hold up, especially if it sits in sun. Looks great!
