truck did not start in park, but started in neutral

Got a call form the GF telling me that the truck wont start, wont crank nothing.

I got to her and the truck was dead but did have power. Truck would not crank in park but fired right up in neutral. not sure on the back up lights but I am guessing it is either time to adjust the neutral safety switch or replace it totally.

anyones opinions? best place to pick one up if you suggest I get one? are they all the same?

Try adjusting it first. I got one at Kragen that works perfectly.

How do you adjust the neutral safety switch?

If it`s just outside of adjustment you should be able to push hard up on the shifter and engage enough to let the truck crank. But,that could be a worn switch, too.

I got it started in neutral but this morning it would not work at all in park or neutral, could the switch go out in stages like that?

Re: truck did not start in park, but started in neutral

Picked up a new Neutral safety switch from Napa, took the old one out and plugged the new one in. She started right up.

I did have some concerns with what the new one looks like with what the old one looks like.

Does anyone have a pic of a non broken Original Neutral safety switch? I have not installed the new one on the column yet but not sure it will even work.

See the old one is broke on the left side. It appears to be wider when not broken but it does not seem to be solid, almost U shaped. the new one is a wide blade on the switch itself in white.

also the new one has more provisions for more plugs, probably other vehicles. The old one does not. has anyone juat used it and not had shorts or anything with exposed bladeS?

That's crazy looking. The one I got looked like the one that it replaced. 2 connectors.

Re: truck did not start in park, but started in neutral

The 1 I bought from NAPA looked just like the old 1 I removed. I don't think you got the right 1.
