Radiator Shroud from the fan distance
Hey Guys,
Just a easy question I hope. My fan blades sit back about 3-4 inches back from the shroud, is this correct or normal? It was a 6 Cyl and is now a 350, so does the 350 sit back further?, it just seems like it should be closer, if nothing else for safety because the fan blades are just sitting out there. I need a new shroud anyway and was thinking of getting an AC shroud (I have no AC) because the opening is longer but a guy at Carlisle said it would not bolt up right. There is currently a homemade piece of bent sheet metal riveted to the top of the shroud which looks like crap as well. The truck runs cool so that is not a problem Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks |

Re: Radiator Shroud from the fan distance
If I remember right the fan blades should set about half way in the shroud.

Re: Radiator Shroud from the fan distance
A factory setup should have the blades about 3/4 of the way inside the shroud for max cooling. If the truck was a orignal 6 cyclinder then you have the motor sitting in the six cyclinder location and not the v-8 location. This would explain why the blades are sitting outside the shroud.

I'll bet your distributor is real close to your firewall.

Re: Radiator Shroud from the fan distance
Thanks that is what i was afraid of, I think you all are correct, so short of moving the motor forward is there anything I can do with the shroud
or will an AC type shroud work and bolt up to the same location? |
