Re: Fi or carb?
From what I have seen, a carb swap is not a "cheap date"....
It requires ignition work too. There is no distributor, just coil packs that run off of a crank trigger and the computer. So, if you are eliminating the computer, which would be the only reason to run a carburetor anyway, you need a distributor. There is a kit made to do exactly this, but it's going to cost, and it takes a bit of tear-down on the front of the engine.

Re: Fi or carb?
Keep it FI. Much better for tuning with laptop and tuning software. Better milage, better running, most likely cheaper also. All around better drivability. thinking about taking my 2005 5.3 out of my S10 Blazer where its been 3 years now and putting in my 68 C20 this winter. Thats my .02 worth. Good luck however you go though. Either way your ahead of the old engine in my opinion. Jim

Re: Fi or carb?
well the reason i cant decide is on one hand you got FI which equals good starting and better fuel economy which im not sure about because dont know what a carbed ls engine will do with an OD. on the other hand you got carbed which equals cam, spring, and head swap and get 500+ hp..

Re: Fi or carb?
Check out LS1truck, you can get that much and more with a little help from Summit on your 5.3 FI engine. You can also cram air down it's throat (supercharger) and some have 1000hp. Up to you and your wallet really.
