alternater help

what color wire is the alternater wire? and how do i get a 1996 alternater to work in my 72?
i do not have a voltage regulator so how do i wire it up?

Might get a better response in the electrical section. Painless Wiring, MAD Enterprises (check out part #ALT-1) or the other wiring manufacturers should have a conversion harness.

I use M&H wiring harness= fool proof.
Plus it's removes the external regulator and looks factory.
