Its only a steal if he marked the lifters in the order they were on the cam. Otherwise its $50 worth of cast iron.

In That case I would say go for it . I would reccommend that you buy some Lunati cam lube or Isky is what I use and lube it up like it was a new one when you put it in .

Hate to go against the tide, but I wouldn't do it. After all the time and effort to install, the gaskets, and the fear factor, there's no guarantee that you won't wipe a lobe, then you'll have to do it all over again. Better to spring for new in this case. Why did the PO take it out?

For safety sake what do you guys think about buying new lifters? Trust that he got these marked in the right order.. or go safe and drop another $70?

Re: Used cam, lifters and pushrods for a steal.. should I?
Just curious, did the engine get broken? Why just pull the cam?
Your last comment about the lifters and my post hit the board at the same time.

Re: Used cam, lifters and pushrods for a steal.. should I?
I think he's going a different direction. It looks like a friend of his had this motor, did a rebuild then hit a cow 3 days after it was done and it totaled the truck. He bought the motor and is going with a bigger cam.

I usually only go with used if I know the guy personally. I just don't trust people.

Re: Used cam, lifters and pushrods for a steal.. should I?
I re-used a cam in my race truck and it lasted 26 laps. I would pass on a used cam. Go new and do it once.

Re: Used cam, lifters and pushrods for a steal.. should I?
Well I did some e-investigating and he has it posted on a forum that he has like 15k posts on as well. Same price, same story. So, that consoles me quite a bit. People generally don't **** where they eat.

This will be my first cam install.. worst case scenario it's just the practice run.

Re: Used cam, lifters and pushrods for a steal.. should I?
I pulled the trigger on it. For $50 I guess I'll roll the dice and hope for the best.
Thanks for the advise though.. hopefully I won't be cursing myself later mumbling about some of you being right. Wouldn't be the first time.
