Not trying to turn this into coffee science 101, lol.. But in short, starbucks has very very bitter coffee. they do this for a reason, consistency it tastes like crap at all their stores lol. the art of extracting a great espresso takes a lot of attention. I dont think its possible to have that many stores and keep on top of all the things needed to make great shots.
so the have opted for the bitter beans. the flavor isnt affected by the differences of a 1000 different barestas starbucks has gone to the superautomatics. that means all the employee has to do is put a cup under it and hit the button. these machines put out a poor coffee, but again, consistent! Also, the American pallet usually doesn't like the bold flavor of a good shot. Thats why a mocha is the favorite drink. the chocolate sweetens it and covers the true flavor of the bean. In Italy most drink straight espresso, maybe with a bit of sugar or cream. thats it. Compared with the USA only about 1% of sales are straight shots. try to find an independant coffee shop that is really into the science of coffee, you will taste the differance.. or come to my house lol ill make you a cup. if we ever have a get together ill bring my machine so i can put my money where my mouth is! lol.

Good luck balancing those puppies, your gonna wobbly
As far as Starbucks goes, its funny, one of my friends works there, and they tell you to put your coffee in the freezer to store it to keep if fresh. But really coffee's worst enemies are cold and moisture, so way to go Star, put it in the coldest most condensating place in the house duh

You guys are all absolutely 100% correct. Starbucks IS the evil empire and should be boycotted at all costs ! Might I suggest a refreshing cup of Seattles Best Coffee as an alternative...

Mike you sound Biased!!
All the good coffee joints are in Washington, and many 1967-1972 chevy trucks too, I might add.

I had a physical a few months ago and the doctor asked me if I drank coffee. I told him I drank about half a gallon a day. He told me thats the first time he had ever heard anyone express how much coffee they drank in percentages of a gallon. I told him I had cut back quite a bit .
I'm back up to a gallon a day or so now plus 3 or 4 turbo truffles for breakfast. Caffeine is my friend ! I used to be the cellarmaster for the pyramid ales company when they were based in Kalama, Wa. Nothing like taste testing beer at 6 AM... Then I worked at Rainier for a few years until Pabst ( a shell company of Miller ) shut her down. I hear that miller is closing Olympia now. The Bastards.

I'll be damned. I lived in Longview for 8 years after I got out of the Army. My family still lives there. Brothers and dad work over at the weyerhauser mill doing technician and computer stuff. My brother also teaches instrumentation and control over at lower columbia college. Where'd you live in Longview. I had a place on Florida over by the lake and over on Garfield for a few years.
