Van Tilt.

So after searching, this is the link people were posting.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=dremel+column

But its a dead link.

Does anyone have any info regarding doing a van tilt colum on my 72 C10???

I'd rather not spend $700 on a new column...

Thanx in advance for any and all help.

Thumbs up Re: Van Tilt.

You can use a van tilt if you modify a few parts. If you have an automatic it is necessary to relocate the neutral switch to the lower end on the column. If you are handy with taking the column apart you can recut the slot and move the switch. if you do not need a neutral switch it does not have to be moved. It will need to be removed so it will bolt up on a c10. Also the shaft at the bottom is longer and you can pull the shaft between the steering box and column and where it slides inside the shaft you should shorten the shaft about 2 inches this will allow movement in case of an accident. Do not try to do modifications if you are not sure how to safly do so. If that is the case purchase a truck column. It is cheaper than the hospital bills. Good Luck

Yes , Chevy van that had the key on the dash . Moving the switch is not that big of a deal . I have done this twice without dis assembly of the column .

I have a van column in my truck. I have heard, that the ones with the key in the column are larger diameter and won't fit? I have a 4 spd., so neutral safety switch was removed. Collapsed the intermediate shaft to get proper length, and bolted it in. Piece of cake.

A little editing of the link does the trick. Try this:

Works for me!

Re: Van Tilt.

So to be clear, i can use a column out of a van up to 82 with the key on the dash right?

I can probably still get one at the salvage yard.

Re: Van Tilt.

Yes, you can use the van colum. The years are fuzzy for my understanding, but it helps to look for round lights in the van. If the colum DOES NOT have a key switch it should work. I just bought a trilt from a chevy motor home [year unknown] and it is simmilar to the van tilt with the exception of the steering shaft being shorter where it hooks to the intermediate shaft. Jim

Re: Van Tilt.

I'm not sure when they went from round to square headlights, but the round will for sure have the right style column. Don't bypass the square headlights without looking because my 82 van had square headlights.
