Help & Opinion
Hello all,
I tried to put this in the body section, but was unable to start a thresd there. If this is in the wrong place, Moderators please move for me? Hopefully here it will get a better responce. Okay, I have a 1970 Chevy 402 BB 4X4 SWB Pickup. It has a 1968 Radiator Support and we are having issues getting the fenders on both sides to mount and bolt on properly. The Radiator Support is mounted properly on the factory L Shaped Brackets on the sides of the front of the frame. In order to get the fenders to bolt up to the support it appears the Radiator support needs to be moved back about an inch torward the motor. Has anyone ever experienced this issue and what is a recommeded fix for this delima? I really think it is something simple as the wrong Rad support, but I really don't want to McGyver a fix; I like things original. I welcome any or all input on this. Thanks All!!!!!!! R/

Re: Help & Opinion
I know the 68 support is different from the 70 and the fenders may not bolt up.

Re: Help & Opinion
You need to buy a 69 or 70 Radiator Support.

Re: Help & Opinion
67/68 rad. supports are different from 69-72 ones. Hence the fenders and grill won't mount up right.

Re: Help & Opinion
I don't think the supports are all that different, well as far as fender mounting goes. The 67-68 differ in the fact that the headlight buckets mount differently (closer to the support) and they have the captured nuts along the leading edge at the bottom of them for mounting the splash shield of the grill. They do use different mounts where the support is attached to the frame mounts. I was just thinking aloud, maybe there are bigger differences in them than what I pointed out, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
If I were you, I would get a 69-72 support an use it to be on the safe side. Good luck.

Re: Help & Opinion
Thats what I am going to recommend to him. He is rebuilding a 1970 SWB 4X4. It already has a 502 BB in it. Once he gets the front on he is going to slap the 67 wood bed I brought him from California on it with a NOS tailgate he found in a original GM packaging. It will be cool.
