BB Engine Stands vs SB Engine Stands
I have heard that you can use SB engine stands for the big block, but I have also heard that you can't. What is the scoop?
Can anyone post some pics of Big Block stands so when I go digging at my local 67-72 graveyard I can identify a set? thanks

While i havent tryed mounting a bb on sb stands, a thread or 2 that I read suggested that the BB will mount in on the sb stands.......but it sounds like there are clearance issues on the ex manifolds or headers. The BB stands do also position the eng slightly rearward from sb mounting point(about 2" Im told). Smoe of the guys are using the 73 up stands/clamshell mounts to mount the BB's, & that seems to work but requires drilling. I cant help with the pics, but good luck.....crazyL

You would have to check with the BB crowd to be sure, but I think you can use the 73 up sb stands to mount your BB..... 72 BB stands were also clamshell, but a little different(and scarce). The older bb mounts /stands are available, but a little pricey from what I understand......

I'm going to yank the big block mounts out of mine and replace them with small bock mounts ( I have a small block I want to put back in the stock position ) . I'd trade a set of small block stands plus a TH350 front driveshaft for my big block mounts if anyone is interested.

well mikep, I could trade you a set of stands but I don't have the drive shaft. Mine is a one piece already. Let me know if you would want to do that. We are both happy that way. Shipping a drive shaft to WA would defeat the purpose anyhow. I'll pay shipping on the stands both ways...

im running a sb on bb towers till i get my bb built but to put a bb on sb towers you have to notch out a place for the header/manifold i think on just one side if there is any way you could have motor on a stand bolt up the toweers on each side then the headers and you will see where you need to notch it

I had to notch mine to header clearance, but they were full-length headers. The engine will bolt right up to them though.
