How close is too close, Tires to leaf spring, backspacing

Couldn't find anything on a search anywhere so here it goes. Currently have a narrowed 10 bolt with 15x10x15 wheels with 3 1/2 backspace and 31x12.5 Hoosiers. There is 2 inches between the sidewall and spring pack.

I wanted to go with 15x12x15 wheels and 29x15x15 hoosiers. The wheels must have exactly 5" backspacing for the tires to fit between the fender and spring pack. Problem is this combo will put the tire sidewall 1/2 inch away from the spring pack that which leaves me with this question... how close is TOO close? Anyone have experience with this??

You will be fine with 1/2 inch. I've run them at 1/4 inch clearance with no issues.

Re: How close is too close, Tires to leaf spring, backspacing

I hit google for a while last night and found others that spend time at the track and run tires as close to 1/8 from their leafs with no contact. I thought cornering or flex might cause them to rub. Thanks for the reply firefighter.

Be sure to measure both sides before you commit. They may not be the same a d this is especially true if you're running tight clearances.

Also visit the tire manufacturer website for the brand you intend to use. Not all tire sizes are the same width, and can vary some based on the rim size selected.

thanks for the heads up.. I'll double check both sides and front and back of the tire as well. I did notice the section width is different between brands and the wheel size used for the measurement. Definately want to get it right the first time!
