What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
Bob is off line enjoying the weekend with family. He asked me to do the Thanksgiving version of our "What did you get done" post.
I spent Thursday at my Mom-in-laws house doing our traditional deal. The men sit on the back patio deep frying birds, while the women cook in the kitchen. We cooked three turkeys and a chicken this year. They turned out great but we did have a casualty. Due to my bro-in-law making an executive decision to start with a lower cooking temp to prevent boil over, then adding to our cook time we ended up with a bird that look like a prop from Christmas Vacation. It will make for a great source of laughter and stories for years to come. The rest of the weekend was spent doing work around the house. I did get to slip away and go to the Houston Auto-Rama for a few hours. I haven't downloaded my pics yet, but here is sneak peak at on of my favorites.

Looks like you had fun N2.
I didn't get anything done truck wise. I did however, enjoy my turkey with the family and sat back an watched Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving with my nephews and my niece afterward.

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
I got to pack up my desk at the end of my work day on Saturday. I am finally done selling cars!!! I start back in the shop full time tomorrow. Me and my paint guns. So, today I spent the day cleaning up my tool box and organizing my stuff to take out to the the new gig.

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
Installed my complete sterio system, aligned my truck, replaced the stub shaft seal on my gear box and swapped out my wheels for some rallies with rings and center caps. Oh yeah I replaced the oil psi switch so the factory guage will work. I love working at a chevy dealership!

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
Actually I did something to my 86 crew ...... it had a very unnecessary set of bridge work over the rear axle that protruded about a foot and a half up into the bed ...... I cut the old tubes out & replaced it with one square tube. Didn't take long but it was progress. Next is cover over the open hole in the bed to make the bed completely functional.

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
On Sat, I managed to get a hour or so to swing out & check up on N2Billets project 'Hazel' as well as our buddy Rogers latest build. I love seeing all the latest ideas & cool stuff but then always leave feeling like a slacker . I also got an hour or two on my own stuff. I finished up the various bracket pieces for my 'home-made' adjustable PHB frame mount (it compliments PB's adjustable PHB nicely). I also did some trimming on an 'air mgt. control panel' I made for the project. I still need to do more but it looks promising & everything worked dimensionally as designed.
This week will be welding up the PHB bracket & finish work on the control panel. Maybe, just maybe..... I'll be able to re-check everything one last time & then it will be tear-down for powder-coating. When re-assembly starts, so will the introduction/build thread of my latest project. Ken, How was the show?

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
We had our Thanksgiving dinner at the home of some good friends. Sure makes it easy to clean the kitchen that way. LOL.
My pinstripe guy dropped off my air cleaner Friday morning, looks great. Went to a good friends house Saturday morning and installed headers and an exhaust kit on his 84 long bed. He already had the exhaust manifolds and stock exhaust removed so the job went quickly. I'll drag my welder to his place this weekend and weld it all up. Caught up on a few things around the house/yard Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I'll be busting butt in December doing all of Santa's work so the fat guy and get all the credit Christmas morning.

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
I finally bought a truck. Went and looked at it last weekend, and Dave delivered it to me Saturday. It's a 1979 SWB with an LT1 in it. I was going to buy an '86 and swap an LT1 into it, but this saves me a ton of time (and probably money, too). There are a couple of wiring issues, but it shouldn't be a big deal.
As far as Thanksgiving goes, I ate too much, drank a little, and got to work on Friday. I was able to snag a Sears ad, just as a guide for my wife. I hear she did good. |

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
Had a headache all day Thursday and the wife wanted to go shopping Friday morning. That night finally got the truck running for the first time since coming back off the boat. Had to fill the power steering since it was empty, oil and transmission fluid were a little low. Found a small coolant leak. Saturday went to the junkyard and got a Suburban rear window, pass rear window and tailgate latch for my father in law. All for $35 saved a bunch of money compared to new. I picked up a dash bezel because it was in good shape minus the aluminum trim on it. Did Christmas lights on Sunday.

Re: What did you get done? 11/29 Thanksgiving edition
Got an 80's vintage antenna installed onto my 78 so I could have radio stations again since the only windshield I could get when I needed it was a non-integrated antenna version. Added a black spiral wound modern antenna mast to it.
Paired down the 87 Suburban power window cross over harness to make it only the circuits needed for a two-door truck then soldered on the older fuse box design terminal ends so it will plug into the 78 fuse box and taped it all back together. Scored a nice condition 79 Big 10 grille emblem that bolted right onto my 78's grille in place of the faded & damaged original tin bowtie insert. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=374160 Found an 86 Suburban at the yard that was a victim of a first snowfall minor fender bender that hit three sides of the rig. Tilt steering column was tight so I snagged it, the brake pedal assembly, brake booster (still had vacuum in it) and the delay wiper motor, wiper arms with integral washer nozzles and the under hood wiring for the wiper motor. Also put together a complete clock gauge cluster from several different rigs. All told my yard bill was under $60. Not bad considering the rag joint on the steering column sells for nearly that. Changed out the leaking harmonic balancer seal. Turns out the new seal I put in this summer had a defective retainer spring. It came out in an oil change a month ago and I finally had enough with the oil dripping to do the job. Had to build a new balancer installation tool as I couldn't find the one I already own. Completed the Camaro tach overlay I had been working on and also made a matching overlay for the 85 mph TBI speedo and one for both the van and my new hybrid truck fuel level gauges. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=276995&page=4 Other than that I didn't get much done.
