Dynomax ultra flow stainless steel muffler...
Anybody on the board running a set of these? I just bought a pair and will be installing them soon. Jegs has them listed at $107 each but I found some on ebay for $78 that are supposedly a direct fit for a new gmc/chevy and they are round instead of the normal style.
I am currently running Dynomax ultra flow race mufflers and after several years they have gotten too loud. Check it out.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123 |

Re: Dynomax ultra flow stainless steel muffler...
So I did some more research. Being that it is a straight through muffler it will sound the same as what I'm currently running(dynomax welded race).
Still looking for a semi-quieter high flowing alternative. Anyone.....Anyone? :-) Last edited by bryanw1968; 12-01-2009 at 09:41 PM. |

I have the regular Ultra Flows on mine. Nice sound at idle and cruising around, but pretty loud when you get on it and in my opinion, a little "glass pack" sounding when you are on it.

Yah I love the way mine sounds at idle but they have become a little "glass packy" like you said ;-)

I have always been a fan of turbo mufflers. They are relatively quiet, deep but not offensive. Much more refined than Flowmasters or chambered mufflers.
They flow much better than stock, but not so much that you lose your low end torque. Turbo mufflers are inexpensive ($20-40) and come in all sizes. Check out Summit for Thrush mufflers. |

Re: Dynomax ultra flow stainless steel muffler...
Mine numb my brain at that spot when they are at the low tone, also could be because I dumped them under the cab too, I ran out of funds for that day. I kind of liked my cherry bombs better, but that could be the hillbilly in me liking the ole farm truck cackle.

I am thinking of running the thrush exhaust kit on my truck. You can get the whole kit cheap for less than 300 with mufflers. pretty good for mandrel bent pipe

Re: Dynomax ultra flow stainless steel muffler...
I'll second the magnaflows. Pretty tame at idle and don't really rumble and roar like flows when your in it. Where in Central Texas are you? I'm in Waco if you want to come over an listen to mine before you commit.

Re: Dynomax ultra flow stainless steel muffler...
Naw, they have alot more packing volume. Alot quieter than bullets. They do "open up" at higher throttle levels because they are straight through. When the velocity goes up it can't really muffle. They're about the same as Magnaflows. We had an ultra flo si/si catback on an '03 Ram 4.7 (loud truck in general) and it was pretty mellow. Very good tone. If it sounds glass-packy you might want to add an h or x pipe, which I think everyone should have anyway.

Re: Dynomax ultra flow stainless steel muffler...
Thanks for all the responses. Don't get me wrong I love that "farm truck crackle" too. One good thing about being broke is that I have a lot of time to look/save :-) So one question on the magnaflows......a lot of people seem to like them. Do they eventually get louder as the packing blows out?
Thanks! |

Re: Dynomax ultra flow stainless steel muffler...
The sound doesn't change much for a loooong time. They have stainless steel wool wrapped around the core before the packing I think.
