What is the difference with the 1954 and 1955 first series

Is the 54 and 55 first series simply a 47-53 with a different front clip?

Bed is different. 54 and 551st should have an open driveline and could have a 235 instead of a 216.
Auto trans started about then in AD's

The dash is changed up a bit (noticeably).

Re: What is the difference with the 1954 and 1955 first series

The doors are the same. The hoods interchange but have different emblems in different locations. The front bumper is the same. The running boards and cab filler panels I believe are the same. The back and corner glass is the same. The seat is the same. Just about EVERYTHING else is different.

Cab: 1 piece curved windshield glass, completely different dash, different gauges, different knobs
Frame: different kick up in the rear, lower and flatter for the bed. Change to bell housing cross member to accomodate hydramatic trans which debuted in '54.
Bed: 2" deeper, flat tops, ribbed sides by the fenders, tailgate and tail lights change.
Front fenders: Recesses for marker lights, shorter front "overhang" where it meets the bumper.
Front grill: completely different
Front apron: shaped to match different grill
Open driveline: 55S1, 54 is NOT open
235 from 54 up (60 psi gauge)
Looks: best of ALL the ADs baby!!

Splitters Rule Dan!
The grille is actually the worst part of the 53-54 and then the bed. But we have had this conversation in another place.

Mis-informed stalkers!

What's wrong with the bed? I can haul more splitter parts to the swap with a deeper bed! And bring home more BEAUTIFUL one piece parts. Oh, the eye soothing dash, the smooth curve of the windshield, the strength of that powerful chin. I think I'll go outside and admire the 3 I have sitting here!! Did I tell you we put a '54 grill on the 1 ton panel!!! Too bad it just isn't the same with a split glass.

Don't care for the flat top on the box side.

Where do you put your beer when changing your wide whites? Angle tops let it slide in!

On the running board, its an easier reach and more likely in the shade. Plus, I can set the whole case there too.

Hmmm...I've got 2" deeper bed. That's a lot more ice and another layer of beer. Slacker, Todd.
