What size do I use?

Can you use 3/16" 2x4 to build the rear portion of a custom frame or would it be too heavy? In all the builds I see everyone using 1/8" but I was looking at another website and they said they it could twist the frame? What should I use?

Re: What size do I use?

I am going to build from the rear cab mounts to rear bumper. I want to narrow it and put a 12" c-notch with a continued kickout. I am going to use a custom triangulated 4 link with bags.

Re: What size do I use?

just roll with it. Although 12" is a too much.

Re: What size do I use?

2x2x3/16 I can pick the truck up by the back frame with no flex in the step. Frame is fully boxed. The only weight it's holding is the back half of the box.

Re: What size do I use?

I used 2x4x.120 wall when I built this frame 3 years ago. No issues so far. If you're confident in your design and in your ability to weld, 1/8 wall is plenty.

Re: What size do I use?

I was reading the new classic trucks magazine and the truck on the cover has 2x4 3/16" wall tubing from the firewall back. Looks pretty good!!

Re: What size do I use?

alot of people run 2x4x3/16.

which is why I said go for it.

but as usual, just because many run that, it doesnt mean its not overkill

I boxed my whole stock frame in 3/16. 1/8 would have been perfect, but I had 3/16 so I used it. all it did was make it really heavy and basically just as strong as using the 1/8.
