need help with fuel tank 71 sub
tank is dirty, i know there are some treatments out there to clean the tank. I was wondering if this is a factory tank? or after market? and is there a replacement or after market tank the same size and mounting??
any help would be appreciated... Thanks Jordan I tried the search, could only find smaller tanks....

Looks like a dealer installed upgraded tank.
I've never seen replacements for that style.

Re: need help with fuel tank 71 sub
That is the optional dealer installed 45 gallon gas tank. Alot of suburbans have them including my 72 suburban.
Honestly if the tank is dirty you are most likely better off just getting a factory reproduction 21 gallon tank. I would also asume that your sending unit is also bad, and those are different from the factory ones. Not sure where you can get a replacement from. If you want to keep the larger tank there are tank sealers you can use.

Blow it out with the pressure washer at the local car wash then muratic acid and water mix dumped in with a length of chain. Slosh it around really good and that should clean the inside. You could also take it to a radiator shop if there are any left and have them cook it in their hot tank.

Re: need help with fuel tank 71 sub
hey budder71...
can you give a link to the page for the big blazer tank. i went to the web site and put blazer in the search box. it showed the 21 gallon tank for 71-72 burb and blazer and the larger factory tanks (25 and 31 gal) from the 73+ trucks....which tank are you referring to? |

Re: need help with fuel tank 71 sub
nope definitely not a direct bolt in in my case. i don't have a floor in the rear of my burb, and i cut out the rear frame cross-member and one of the rear body cross-members that used to be under the original rear floor to raise it above the bottom of the frame rail. and for now its only held in with ratchet straps.

Re: need help with fuel tank 71 sub
i think the aftermarket guys should make a double tank like the dealer unit, only it should be constructed from poly and have radius edges so it looks more like the factory tank. i don't want to remove the cross member on my burb to fit a bigger tank and the dealer tank is ug-ly.
