I have seen the 600 CFM Electric Choke Remanufactured Carburetor online at SDPC2000.com for $169.95, and I am wondering if this is a good performing street carburetor? These are vacuum secondary carbs with a single accelerator pump. I have a 600 CFM Edelbrock carb right now and I get around 12 MPG. Could the Holley possibly improve my mileage? I feel that the Holley carbs are easier to find parts for, and are more widely used in perfomance situations, and the price seems very good also.

unless you go with a double pumper,or a holley clone(barry grant,street avenger...etc.) you wont find anymore performance. I would get the rod and jet kit for the 1406 and tune your carb to your application. and the 1406 is much easier to tune(IMO) than the holley

I think the Edelbrock leaks a bit, and it doesnt have an electric choke. So I could replace it with a Holley, or an Edelbrock, but I would definitely go for a reman carb just because of the cost savings. As long as the MPG doesnt go down, I would think the power output would be similar.

your mileage will probably be close to the same. Both are good carbs. The Holleys aren't that hard to tune, it's just a matter of learning how.

I get 13 mpg with a 600 holley on the highway and I drive 70-80 all the time with 3.54 gears and a mild cam and performer eps intake in REALLY HEAVY 3/4 ton. For a nearly stock motor the holleys are set up pretty good out of the box. Ive run edelbrocks before . I probably won't again. Holleys arent hard to tune at all and are certainly easier than edelbrocks for high performance applications not to mention the vast advantage holleys have in parts availablity and tuning information.

I dont think you will see a difference in milage going to the Holley.......its still a square bore carb. If you swap to a spreadbore(Q jet, or 650 spreadbore holley), you may pick up a little milage. Both of those choices are a little pricey tho. The hand choke versions of the Edelbrock run pretty rich out of the box, but are very tuneable& edelbrock has a lot of good tuning info on their site.
