haunted horn
Hi everybody! I am brand new to the forum and am very impressed with all the threads and comments I see. I have been driving my 72 longbed Cheyenne daily for over 17 years...didn't know otherwise...
The horn has been disconnedted since I have driven it becuase each time the steeering wheel is turned it decides to beep on and off. This is not workable so I have been without horn use for that amount of time. Any suggestions for correction appreciatd. The truck has the tilt steering. Thanks again.

Due to the wear of something in the column shaft, It's causing a short.. ( of course it is Huh, That made a lot of sence) Mine does the same thing but only when I pull back,(UP) on the turn signal lever.. I can see the sparks cross from the Turn signal to the Steering wheel adaptor.. I use it this way.. Instead of having a "Horn button" I pull up on the turn signals and it honks. Makes me imagine it's a newer old truck.
If you would pull it apart, you could probably see where it is worn by the shinpieces. RON |

honks with turn signal
if it honks with the turn signal pulled it is probably the ...costs like $30 though because you have to buy all the adapters too.

My '68 used to do this. The screws holding the turn signal mechanism in place in the column were all loose. I tightened them up and my phantom honking stopped. It also made my self cancelling work again.

i have my horn disconnected from the button on the wheel and ran it to a button on the dash. Now I just need some killer loud air horns or and old awooooga horn

I let my wife drive my truck and she broke the plastic turn signal cancel thingy. The turn signal lever was grounding out on the column. Same as Ron, it was sparking. I wrapped some tape around the lever to insulate it temporarily until I got the part replaced.
