does anyone know where to get a camshaft remover or if there are any other ways to remove your cam?
and secondly which kind of puller works best for removing the lower timing gear sprocket? thanks!

Re: camshaft remover

I always use a 2 jaw puller to remove the pulley, I use longer bolts and pull the cam right out, never had problems, make sure the lifters are out first........

When my son and his friend did a cam swap, they just started taking stuff apart. Whatever was on the intake wound up in the intake runners. I don't know if the same care was taken putting it back together or if it happened on teardown but somehow a washer wound up in #5 cylinder. Beat the living crap out of the piston and ruined the head. I still don't know if the block is ok. It was a 2000 mile crate 350. Very sad day.

There is more damage possible from that scenario. You will definitely need to have the crank checked for straight and the cylinder wall checked for cracks. I had a friend drop a small bolt into my carb swapping breathers on a propane setup once and the big cam and big valves let it into the #8 cylinder. It cracked the head, the block, busted the piston rings and bent the crank. Pretty much junked the motor. You might not have this much damage with a washer. Keep your fingers crossed.

Re: camshaft remover

If you would have stated that you were having trouble I would have told you to check it.

I try not to offer to much advice anymore. Apparently there are those who will get offended.
